Joseph Albao

Joseph Albao (b. 1982), an established yet modest painter, has been shaped by numerous artistic pursuits. With an unwavering determination to improve himself, he strives to portray personal fulfillment and self-identity through his works. Born as an orphan in Malabon, Metro Manila, Joseph’s paintings are filled with infusions of cultural and historical overtones with compelling symbols of the Filipino heritage.

from the paintings of Amorsolo and Botong Francisco, my seem unassuming, but they exude a quiet aura of admiration, resilience, and elegance. Through his art, Albao challenges viewers to reconsider their connection to their Filipino heritage and culture in light of contemporary advancements in technology, social media, and globalisation. The oil lamp is a familiar recurrence in all of Joseph’s works as it signifies the hopes and dreams of the nation. Joseph’s masterpieces are visual attributes of his patriotism. His mission is to showcase the magnificence of the land and the people, and to encourage a love for the two.

Albao majored in Advertising at Batangas State University and has a number of notable awards and exhibitions to his name. His recent artistic creations have earned him recognition, such as the top prize in the PIG Sining: A Fine Arts Contest (2018), the second honorable mention in the Lakbay Sining Painting Competition (2018), and being a finalist in the 2nd Alveo National Painting Competition (2018), among other accolades.
